Gamescom 2020 will be held only digitally, the official announcement arrives

After that in the past few hours it was announced that the 2020 edition of the Gamescom of Cologne would have been canceled following the extension of the ban on public demonstrations in Germany until 31 August, the body that is responsible for organizing the event, Cologne Fair, has released a first statement through its social channels, in which it confirms that, as had already been stated previously, Gamescom 2020 will still be held in live streaming on the pre-established dates, i.e. from 25 to 29 August. On August 24, however, the journalist Geoff Keighley will hold the Opening Night Live, this too obviously digitally.

It's official: Unfortunately, Gamescom won't be able to take place in Cologne in any way this year. Like many of you we are disappointed, because as an organizing team we have been working for months on a fantastic 2020 edition, as well as the exhibitors. However, it is equally clear that in a situation like this one must stick together, and that also means taking care of each other and minimizing the risk of infection.
Anyway, we are already working at full capacity on a digital Gamescom. After all, we're talking about the most important gaming event in the world, and that's what it should be this year too. You will soon find out how we intend to celebrate the best games with you and millions of other fans at the end of August, even if it will be an exclusively online event. But one thing is certain: Gamescom is and will remain the heart of gaming this year too.
