[Gamescom 2018] LEGO DC Super Villains - Proven, Bricks and Underworld

We have seen the LEGO bricks in all their sauces, especially in the videogame field. From the Avengers to the Incredibles, every character in the “nerdy world” has had a counterpart made of digital cubes as a tribute. Among our appointments at Gamescom 2018 we were guests of Warner Bros. Games, which in its dedicated stand showed us the highly anticipated LEGO DC Super Villains. Thanks to this opportunity, we were able to admire some unique sequences of the game, as well as, of course, to try it by hand. DC's most iconic villains are ready to enter your homes in true LEGO style. TT Games, as usual, offers us something new that can give a significant change of course to the series.

The first thing the developers showed us was a brand new introduction to the series, that is an editor dedicated to the creation of the character. In fact, now the players will be able to shape their protagonist, both in the powers and in the appearance, so as to have the honor of placing your avatar alongside the greatest criminals in the DC world. The sheer size of this feature looks like it won't leave any player unhappy as there will be a large number of models and possibilities. You can bet everything on fear, creating a cruel and evil counterpart, or a crazier one dressed in an absurd but still dangerous way. The first level shown by the developers was the Stryker's Island prison, location located in the city of Metropolis. In some subsequent sequences we then made the acquaintance of some characters such as Heathwace, Lex Luthor and many others. The team immediately showed what we were most interested in: LEGO DC Super Villans will have a really large roster, so as to please the fans of every supervillain.

The purpose of this first phase was to escape from prison. The only chance to succeed will be to join the powers with the other members of the group, taking advantage of the scenario in its entirety and progressing gradually through the levels. Furthermore, as seen from the test of the developers, the roster is also composed of superheroes that you can take advantage of in the free play mode.

After this short demonstration, we were finally able to try it first hand LEGO DC Super Villains. The level at our disposal was that of Gorilla City. The basic purpose was to introduce ourselves in front of the Boss, but doing it LEGO style definitely has a different taste. In fact, the platform sections of the title have remained practically unchanged, with the classic "break and reassemble" to master almost all the puzzles. The puzzles did not seem particularly complex to us, but it is also fair to remember that we are not the greatest target of production. Despite this, however, the team has proved, as usual, able to diversify the roster, giving an exact characterization to each character. For this reason, changing the protagonist will be fundamental for the success of the various environmental puzzles.

As regards this point, therefore, there are no major news worthy of note. Totally opposite speech as regards the technical side: the colors are perfectly blended and cohesive with the various locations, giving the entire production a truly remarkable glance. There remain several doubts about our test, all deeply linked to the drafting of the plot since, as regards the gameplay, we have not noticed any particular differences. In conclusion we can say that LEGO DC Super Villains is a possible surprise, as long as TT Games has used enough creative energy also on the narrative front. The large roster potentially gives hours of infinite longevity, as some phases or sections can only be faced with certain characters, which will prompt the user to try to unlock all the villains.
