Game of Thrones writers leave Disney

Game of Thrones writers leave Disney

Known all over the world for being the couple of authors who created the television series The Throne of Swords, David Benioff e DB Weiss have abandoned the project of a future and new film trilogy on Star Wars just eighteen months after the announcement of their landing in Disney. The couple has thus released an official note regarding the exit from the project:

“We love Star Wars. When George Lucas created the saga, he created us too. Talking about Star Wars with him and the current Star Wars team was a once-in-a-lifetime dream, and we will always be indebted to the saga that changed everything. But one day is made up of a few hours and we feel we cannot do justice to both Star Wars and our project with Netflix. So, unfortunately, we are forced to take a step back. "

Their task within Disney was to write and produce the Star Wars film to be released in December 2022 after the chapter "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker", a trilogy different from the project carried out by J.J. Abrams. The president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, wanted to declare how the choice of the two authors is exclusively attributed to the scarce availability of time that they could dedicate, that is to say too busy to be able to work on several projects as important as that of Star Wars.

It is known, among others, that the contract with Netflix amounts to an amount close to 250 million dollars. Definitely a good reason to devote most of their time to the streaming platform.
