Ford: the winning design of the ProjectP1 virtual racing car unveiled

During the 2020 edition of Gamescom, Ford has officially unveiled the definitive version of the virtual racing car born from the exclusive collaboration between the iconic company of the blue oval and the community of gamers. The prototype created by TeamFordzillaP1 was developed under the code name ProjectP1, and was created thanks to the preferences of Twitter followers during its different design phases. They have been more than 250.000 users who actively participated in the surveys, and who chose elements such as seat position, cabin style and transmission before Ford's designers worked out their preferences into unique design. Of the two projects proposed for the final survey, the one made by Ford exterior designer was chosen Arturo Ariño, who managed to clinch the victory with the83% of votes.

ProjectP1 brought me back to the origin of everything. The reason I became an automobile designer in the first place was to design something that was never seen before and could cross borders. This car will be visually stunning, and while it will push the player to the limit of concentration and reflexes, it will be extremely rewarding to drive.

Inspired by the Ford GT supercar, Arturo Ariño's winning design used some exclusive features, such as that of the morphing on the silhouette of the car by modifying its dimensions, lengthening them to offer greater stability even on the high-speed straights of Le Mans, or shortening them, to better tackle the most tortuous circuits such as those of Monaco. Ford has currently announced that it is in talks with a major gaming developer to introduce the model into a popular racing game automakers in the course of 2021.

At the same time, Ford also announced that it will build a life size model of the Project P1 prototype made by TeamFordZillaP1 by the end of the year, and that it is already at work in its design studios in Cologne, Germany. The project is part of Ford's Commitment to the real application of the approach out of the box, gamified thinking that leads to reflection innovative, able to develop unconventional solutions to concrete problems, with the aim of transforming some aspects of daily experience.

The final of the first edition of Fordzilla Cup will be held during Gamescom 2020. Qualifying and heats took place during the week and will culminate with the identification of the first overall champion, who will be crowned during this weekend.
