Final Fantasy XVI at the PS5 event? We explain what is happening

During these hours a case has literally opened regarding the arrival of the new Final Fantasy XVI, chapter of the famous series much discussed in recent years. In fact, there are so many rumors about the project, but it must be said that at present they have really intensified, suggesting that the actual its announcement is imminent. The fact that millions of players are talking about is linked to a tweet, more precisely to a "twitter" removed from Shinji Hashimoto, well-known manufacturer Square Enix. In fact, he shared a video of Sony dedicated to the presentation of PlayStation 5, inviting its users to attend the event by reciting the caption "some of the incredible games that will arrive on PS5, and beyond".

The tweet was removed almost instantly, but that was enough to unleash the fans. However, it is right to make a small point of the situation, to see how much concrete there is in everything that is happening in these days.

In the most recent past, during the PS5 Showcase on June 11th, Square Enix took the ball to show the world Project athia, therefore it is plausible to expect the participation of the Japanese house also during this new event. Deleting the message might suggest that the company wants to all intents and purposes to keep its participation secret, maybe just to surprise the fans with something important. As for Twitter instead, it's not the first time the company has leaked something. In fact, in August it was discovered the secret profile of Final Fantasy XVI, and although the account was locked and never used, the linked email is the same one used by Square Enix for the management of many social pages. To put more meat on the fire there were two specific rumors: the first which saw the announcement of the new chapter in the course of 2020, the second which would be in temporary exclusive on PlayStation 5. Both this information go hand in hand with regard to tomorrow's presentation event, even if at an official level everything is still silent, and it seems strange that Square Enix launches a new chapter of the saga depriving itself, albeit in a non-definitive way, of an important market share. Among the many things there is no particular clarity regarding the details of these exclusivity agreements, so this scenario seems quite unlikely, but how Final Fantasy VII Remake teaches, you never know.

So we come to today, with the new PS5 commercial that seems to scatter clues on Final Fantasy, but even here the speech is to be taken with a grain of salt. Hashimoto, already several years ago to tell the truth, said that in the future the series could have returned to cross the boundaries of pure fantasy. In the spot PlayStation 5 The Edge - Play Has No Limits appears, for a few moments but in a particularly specific way, a flying ship very similar to those seen in the old chapters of the saga. However, even these rumors have not particularly convinced us, because that specific ship can actually be connected to Final Fantasy XVI seems to us a fairly forced solution. The whole commercial features ships of all kinds, so at most it could be either a particular homage, or a simpler similarity.

At present, therefore, the thought would lead to an imminent announcement, but the truth is, we have very little to rely on. The news seems quite sparse and vague, the only things that are quite concrete are the two slips on Twitter, but even these two solutions may not want to confirm anything. We know for sure that the work on the game has long started, but the studio has been really good at not letting anything too indiscreet. However, the whole issue was then discussed among various more or less thick insiders: the common opinion is what Square Enix had already planned to show Final Fantasy XVI during the first presentation of PS5 in June, and then take a step back due to the reorganization of the remote work due to the Covid-19. The software house should have had a problem with the material to show, ultimately skipping the event.

If for some this is the most plausible scenario, more well-known and reliable personalities such as the analyst Daniel Ahmad seem to be in stark contrast. The latter states that the sixteenth installment of the series has never been considered to be shown at the presentation of PS5, but does not feel to exclude its presence at the next show. However the insider Navtra, which has already anticipated truthful details about the PlayStation 5 presentation lineup in the past, insists that Final Fantasy XVI could easily be presented tomorrow.

We believe that it is right to hope, but for us too the presentation of the game is difficult and we do not feel too unbalanced. Now it will be necessary to resist until tomorrow at 22:00, time of the event in which Sony will reveal everything on its new console.
