Far Cry 6: the narrative director explains the similarities between Yara and Cuba

Ubisoft revealed further details regarding the fictional country of Father Cry 6 and why they were inspired by Cuba. This new chapter takes the series back to an exotic and tropical location, the fictional country of Yara ruled by the dictator Anton Castle, interpreted by Giancarlo Esposito, famous actor who also gave life to the character of Gustavo "Gus" Fring, from the TV series Breaking Bath. In fact, gamers immediately noticed some resemblance to Cuba in the trailer. According to an interview with the narrative director Navid Khavari and released on the official Ubisoft blog, this is because Cuba was the main source of inspiration for the setting and culture of Far Cry 6.

We wanted to tell a story about the revolution, and when we talk about revolution we think of guerrilla warfare. When you mention guerrillas, you think of Cuba. We were very, very lucky to be able to travel to Cuba. I spent about a month there with the team, exploring the whole island. We got to meet so many great people and experience the music and culture of the place, we also met former guerillas. Cuba was the starting point for our island of Yara, we don't want to tell only the story of a modern revolution, but we also want to tell the details of an island that is almost frozen in time.

This explains why very old weapons and vehicles are seen in the game, why Cuba - and consequently Yara - is essentially frozen in time, causing decades of embargoes and trade sanctions. Far Cry 6 is still quite far away, but news are not long in coming. Did you already know that the title will include some out-of-the-line cut-scenes? We talked about it in the article you find at the following link. We remind you that the game is scheduled for release on February 18 2021 to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Google Stadia and for next-generation consoles PlayStation 5 e Xbox TV Shows X.
