Fallout 76: Season 4 - Spring Update Review

It is useless to go around it too much, Fallout 76 it is a work that many would prefer to forget forever, a name capable of instilling fear even in the heart of the most avid fan. The Bethesda creature - which in the initial premises should have catapulted the brand into a new era, where it would have been possible to experience unforgettable adventures in the company of one's friends - turned out to be a bitter disappointment in the public eye. Stripped of everything that had always distinguished the saga, Fallout 76 showed itself to fans in a worrying state to say the least, devoid of bite from a playful point of view, poor in terms of content and plagued by a bewildering number of bugs and glitches. In short, we are talking about a particularly significant failure and which cost Bethesda whole months of harsh criticism that were able to put it to the test. Since then, a lot of water has passed under the bridges and, although at the time there were many who gave up the entire project, today we are here to talk to you once again about that online action-RPG that seems very eager to regain the precious lost ground.

Fallout 76: Season 4 - Spring Update Review

Over the past two years, Bethesda has in fact released various updates designed to enrich the production, including modes, unpublished narrative content and playful additions useful to bring the most passionate users closer together, with Westlanders being the most striking example. The various Seasons have actually occurred in a discontinuous manner, as also demonstrated by the last few months where the news has unfortunately been in hiding, and only after a long silence was the company revealed the roadmap of the news coming, for a total of ben four new Seasons full of content. The April 27 will be the turn of "Ready and Loads", the spring update that will have to keep us busy waiting for the much more talked about "Kingdom of Steel", which will allow us to continue the events related to the Brotherhood of Steel; Well, we at Resources4Gaming were able to try it well in advance and now we are ready to give you our feedback on it.

You are SPECIAL

A game that focuses so heavily on customizing your character must necessarily offer valid options to speed up this process and the “Ready and Loaded” update presents an interesting novelty in this regard. Bethesda has in fact added the possibility of creating loadouts for the SPECIAL system, the set of skill points that can be assigned at the beginning of the adventure to which the cards representing the specialties of your digital alter-ego are firmly linked. Following the numerous requests from the players, the development team has in fact inserted an option, reachable through the CAMP - its own customizable base through the materials scattered around the map -, which will allow anyone who wants to reset the points for free. SPECIAL, so as to redistribute them according to your needs. Furthermore, once this is done, it will be possible to save this build in one of the available slots (each character will have two, which will be unlocked once you reach level 25), so you can change it every time you find yourself at your CAMP, a great way to offer more freedom to the player.

Similarly, a similar option was also introduced for its own CAMP, with two slots available to use. In this way, you can in fact give shape to a second base without the need to destroy the one you had already painstakingly created and customized in hours and hours of play, then switching between one and the other by pressing a single button. In addition to this, among the innovations implemented there are a new assisted aiming system designed to simplify life for all those who want to enjoy the adventure by holding a pad, a radical modification of the melee attacks, now more fluid and much more useful. compared to the past, the possibility of making entire blocks of the same object in one go, so as to avoid the long and tedious waits that one was forced to in the past, and a general simplification of the whole system devoted to the sale of objects. In short, there is talk of several changes capable of meeting the requests of many users who for a long time felt held back by some of the mechanics present in-game, a certainly important step forward that fans will hardly not appreciate.

New possibilities with Fallout 76 Operations

But now let's move on to the fulcrum of this fourth Season, or the news to daily operations. The development team has in fact announced that it has doubled the amount of content available in this sense, with the addition of new environments - such as Vault 96 and Watoga's Marauders Arena -, new enemies and, above all, the new "Decryption" mode. In these peculiar missions, we will be required to find and eliminate specific opponents to disable radio interceptors. The difference from the past lies precisely in the way in which we will have to move, given that such daily operations will require a predominantly stealth approach, where it will be necessary to move in a secluded way between one area and another trying not to draw attention to oneself. Of course it is also possible to charge with weapons drawn, but doing so will complicate your life a lot, given the large number of enemies and, above all, the presence of peculiar adversaries in possession of very dangerous attacks able to completely ignore your resistances. .

In general, the work done by the team has proved to be more than satisfactory and the prizes that can be obtained are worth the effort required, but at the same time it is impossible not to denote the underlying problems that have partly undermined the foundations of this method. The not exactly brilliant AI of the opponents has in fact made our avoidance tactics useless several times, sometimes because even passing in front of it we were totally ignored, in other cases due to dubious sightings that occurred in situations in which we were very far from prying eyes. Secondly, the new environments experience ups and downs, with sufficiently rich and well-differentiated maps which are followed by others that are easily forgotten. Speaking instead of the news in terms of the dangers that can be faced, the new opponents present are certainly a welcome addition, but on more than one occasion we have felt a palpable sense of reskin, without a real commitment to differentiate them from the many enemies already present in-game.

Fallout 76: Season 4 - Spring Update Review

In short, we are talking about a pleasant breath of fresh air useful to flesh out the experience and that will surely be able to entertain users - especially those launched into the world of Fallout 76 with some friends -, but at the same time we are sorry to see how it would have been enough a little 'extra work to make the new offers truly unforgettable in daily operations. To close the circle, we finally think about the return of Armor Ace, already seen in the board of the second season, together with a whole new set of daily and weekly challenges to complete. For those new to the experience offered by Fallout 76, we are talking about a menu designed specifically to obtain a long series of in-game rewards (including consumables, weapons, clothes and much more) that can be unlocked whenever you have completed a certain number of challenges; as per tradition, some will be very easy and will require you a few minutes of play, while for others you will have to sweat the fateful seven shirts.
