Fairy Godmother Wanted - Review, a new kind of fairy tale

Today we present a new Christmas movie from the brand Walt Disney, Fairy Godmother Wanted, or Godmothered in the original, which will be available from December 3rd on Disney plus. This is an almost fairytale-style family film where the protagonist will not be the usual princess, but one fairy godmother, who will try to revive the fortunes of her own magical world by going to help a little girl who asks for help. But in the real world, things are a little different than what he imagined. Fairy Godmother Wanted opens up in the world of fairy godmothers, Motherland. Here an old fairy named Agnes introduces us to all the other colleagues. We immediately notice that they are all very old, including Moira, the upright director and professor at the institute where she teaches how to become a graduate fairy godmother. Here in the classroom we get to know Eleonor, a radiant fairy, the youngest of all, who wears beautiful blonde hair. A girl who with great enthusiasm he strives to graduate and being able to go around helping people. Unfortunately, however, there is an atmosphere of despair in the air, with all the fairy godmothers who are fed up with the usual teachings of Moira, always the same for hundreds of years. In fact, it has been a long time now that there have been no more requests for help from children, and even if it is not said directly, everyone knows that, because of this, shortly thereafter the institute will be closed. This triggers in Eleonor's head the thought that this way he will never graduate, and will have to give up his dream accordingly.

He then decides to rummage through the archive destined to collect the various requests of the human world. He opens all the drawers, over and over again in search of even a single sheet, but unfortunately without great results. This is where we realize how much Eleonor is still inexperienced and clumsy in the use of magic: while he tries to float in order to reach the highest compartments we notice that he cannot keep himself well in balance. At a certain point, however, a sheet appears in a corner. It's a call for help from a 10-year-old girl named Walsh McKenzie, who asks for someone to help her become more confident and successful in school.

A bitter reality

Eleonor is therefore decided to leave to help this little girl, so as not to close the institute. Obviously it has to do all in secret since she hasn't graduated yet, and Moira would never allow her to leave. Once through the portal, the fairy finds herself catapulted into the countryside, into a pumpkin patch. So he immediately sees the opportunity to be able to create a carriage so that he can go and track down little Walsh, but again he has to contend with his inexperience, and after having popped some pumpkins, he decides to set out on foot. At one point, tired, she dozes off under a tree, where she will be found by a truck driver who was passing along that road. From the first dialogues between the two it is immediately clear that Eleonor believes that the reality of humans is a kind of fairytale Middle Ages, in fact, he appeals to the truck as if it were a huge transformed carriage, and thinks his McKenzie is a princess who lives in an actual castle. The truck driver takes Eleonor to Boston, to a television studio where Walsh works. And this is where the fairy discovers that, since the letter was sent many years ago, that little girl is now she became an adult.

Our fairy godmother then finds herself facing an adult woman disillusioned with life and with little hope of a "happy ending". Always torn between her stressful, unrewarding job and her two young daughters, Walsh sees her life go, slowly, getting worse, also because only her sister remained to support her, since the girls' father seems to have disappeared. Eleonor will have a tough task ahead of her, she will have to give hope again in a better future in Walsh, while at the same time having to help heal the mother-daughter bond that is slowly crumbling more and more. All in the shortest possible time to ensure that Moira does not discover her to bring her home, will the young and clumsy fairy godmother be able to fix everything?
