Elune, the review

Elune, as you will find out by reading this review, does not invent anything new: the Gamevil title reuses the traditional formula of gacha-style strategic RPGs, that is with a summon system to draw new characters, and involves us in a fairly long campaign, which unfolds within seven different settings and is accompanied by a couple of alternative modes that are also useful in terms of grinding. The look freemium experience becomes prevalent starting from the third map, when you meet the first opponents that are difficult to beat: this forces you to retrace your steps and replay some missions or, as mentioned, to try your hand at the Special Event and Challenge modes in order to to get the rewards needed to upgrade your team.

Elune, the review

The strength of the game undoubtedly lies in the abundance and quality of characters, which despite being often stereotyped are really very beautiful to look at, with a generous fanservice in the case of female figures and, in general, a mature and convincing style, which is further highlighted by the goodness of the animations and by some cutscenes that accompany the salient phases of the history (forgettable, in any case), in particular the opening. Summoning them therefore turns into a fairly exciting event, and it is precisely on this that the developers have aimed to monetize: although it is possible to easily obtain new fighters even for free, they are the Summon for a fee those that guarantee the best results, not to mention the very expensive ability to make a new selection if the character caught is not to our liking. Fortunately, this is the only catch you need to beware of, since otherwise there are no particular constraints.

Gameplay and structure

As mentioned, the Elune formula starts from the evocation of the characters that are used for the composition of a team, with two lines (advanced and rear) that give life to different strategies and add a little thickness to the gameplay. For the rest, however, everything knows abundantly already seen: although often the view on the battlefield changes, the combat system turn-based gives life to the usual situations, indeed facilitated by a very immediate touch control system. The selection of the active character is based on the characteristics, so our task will only be to choose one of the available attacks and touch the target to hit it. Of course the presence of characters belonging to classes different fights can change the face of fights, and it is always a good idea to have a healer on the team who can heal the wounds of teammates as needed, or someone who can increase the enthusiasm of the formation to make the moves more effective.

Elune, the review

The selection we dealt with seemed to us quite varied and interesting: a warrior armed with a sword in the front line, flanked by an agile but effective fighter, and behind one healer, a magician with ranged attacks and a kind of quick and deadly ninja. The continuous unlocking of weapons, objects, coins and new characters allows you to enhance individual fighters through traditional mechanisms, such as the fusion of useless cards and the equipment (even automatically, if necessary) with more effective tools. Nothing original, we reiterate it, but it is a system that is placed in the perspective of an extraordinary technical realization, which underlines how much Gamevil has invested in the realization of this title.

Elune is a very nice strategic RPG to look at, thanks to the excellent work done with the (many) summonable characters, with the scenarios, the interface and even the bosses. The experience is characterized by a somewhat aggressive freemium model, which begins to be felt more or less halfway through the campaign and forces you to do some grinding or spend real money to be able to proceed smoothly. Beyond this, however, the experience fortunately poses very few limits and can be enjoyed immediately, thanks to a simple but solid formula, even if not very innovative and indeed decidedly already seen in the genre.

PRO

  • Gorgeous and abundant characters
  • Fairly long campaign
  • Simple and immediate gameplay ...
AGAINST
  • ... but not very original
  • A bit aggressive freemium model
  • Basically useless plot
