Elden Ring - Preview of the most anticipated FromSoftware title ever

Elden Ring is already on everyone's lips, probably before its appearance on the stage of E3 this summer in Los Angeles. What is expected of the minds behind and within this project? The answer is simple: a legend. Because if on the one hand we have a giant of game design, Hidetaka Miyazaki already father of Dark Souls / Bloodborne, on the other hand we find the giant of modern fantasy literature, George RR Martin who made us all thrilled both in the pages of "A Song of Ice and Fire" and in the adaptation for HBO called The Throne of Swords. What do we know so far about the title in development? We present it to you in this preview, thanks to a not just interview carried out in Los Angeles by IGN's international colleagues.

Elden Ring it will be a vast, open world title in the truest sense of the word: forget the interconnected areas of Dark Souls but think more of a world in sauce The Witcher 3 or Horizon Zero Dawn. Miyazaki said that in order to develop such a world he had to thoroughly study games of the genre, while maintaining both the style and the typical setting of his worlds. There will be new mechanics and new elements to compose this symphony (who writes to you ventures to mounts and new teleportation systems). What is certain, for now, is that the mechanics will be typical of the action / rpg that we have loved in recent years with FromSoftware.

In the game world, however, some real "living" cities will be absent, in the sense that the player will find ruins or the like from which to steal the secrets and details of that past history, which will be reconstructed piece by piece in order to discover what Martin has reserved for us. As you may have guessed, Martin has dealt with the story that you will have to discover: a mythology rich in content awaits you and since the appearance and shape of your character will be to your liking, it is not certain that there are no references to be grasped even in the creation phase of the protagonist. Miyazaki:

Storytelling in video games, at least in the way we do it in From Software, comes with many restrictions for the writer. I didn't think it would be a good idea to have Martin stay within these boundaries. By having him write about a period in which the player is not directly involved, he is free to give vent to his creativity in the way he likes. Also, we at From Software didn't want to create a more linear and guided experience for Elden Ring.

the same then stated about the setting:

The player will be able to learn the mythology made by Martin through exploration. We are known for allowing the player to explore the lore of the game through snippets of environmental storytelling, and this time Martin's story is what you will be trying to unravel. The period in which the player explores is still tied to the old days and slowly one will discover why the world has become the way it is.

We are sure that more information will not be long in coming, we remind you that the title is in development for PC, Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One.
