Eidos Sherbrooke: Square Enix and Eidos Montreal open the new studio

A new research and development studio has been officially opened by the company Eidos Montreal together with the parent company Square Enix. It will be called Eidos Sherbrooke, and will take its name from the homonymous southern city in Quebec. The company itself described this new opening as a “regional chapter” of Eidos Montreal; initially the team will consist of only 20 people who, over the next 5 years, will come to count about 100.

The "mission" of this study is to support the research and development of what will be the games of tomorrow by testing and applying new technologies. Julien Bouvrais, CTO of Eidos Montreal and now also head of Eidos Sherbrooke, said the new studio will especially benefit from new technologies such as Voxel-based raytracing, geo-morphing, new processes such as cloud computing and many others. Furthermore, the firm will collaborate with various institutions such as the University of Sherbrooke to achieve the aforementioned objectives and many others.

These new technologies, within video games, will allow us to create infinitely customizable and highly realistic environments in real time, as well as test various high-performance simulations for different users at the same time. The new Sherbrooke-based studio will serve to offer something different, an environment and working conditions that foster creativity and innovation.
