Dylan Dog 404: Anna Forever - Review

We all asked ourselves a month ago, at the end of reading the previous issue (issue # 403 "The blade, the Moon and the Ogre") who this beautiful girl named Anna was that Dylan would like to kill. A very unusual event for our Old Boy to kill a beautiful damsel like her, for this reason, accompanied by the musical notes of "Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd" and "Agent of Fortune - Blue Oyster Cult" recommended by Roberto Recchioni, in Dylan Dog 404: Anna Forever we are going to discover the true story of the girl and her nightmares… and perhaps not only hers.

A little clue before starting to talk about the story: we all asked ourselves the question mentioned at the beginning of the article, and well, we can tell you that those of you who have read the comics of the old Dylan Dog, will know that many of the images drawn were taken precisely by very first books of the well-known nightmare investigator, and as a result we already know that in some cases you will have many flashbacks, a full blown return to the past. So, it would seem just that Sergio Bonelli Editore has been speaking, and so has Roberto Recchioni, on what was declared long ago on the history of Dylan Dog in the first 6 issues of the new era "666".

History

Continue the "first steps" that our Nightmare Investigator, Dylan Dog, is taking in old London, meeting zombies, killers, ghosts and monsters of all kinds. The story of Dylan Dog 404 is precisely a reinterpretation issue # 4 of Dylan Dog (we do not mention the title so as not to spoil names or events to those who had not approached you at the time): we are talking about 43 years ago, 1987, when we still did not know who our Old Boy was and what he really did, but above all when we still the publishing house did not see results of its work. Yet, 43 years later we are here, talking about Dylan Dog, his stories and his worst nightmares, discovering him in this new adventure where he will try (and we with him) to accept himself as he is.

The story proceeds very quickly, enriched by unexpected twists, fluid and elegant dialogues, perfectly framing the designs created. And the investigation? We can say that for the first time, perhaps, Dog is busy investigating himself. Fortunately - or unfortunately - he himself will have shocking revelations in which he will have to choose between life and death (strange ... it never happens! Ed), but above all where the charge and the personification in the text will be very high. Exciting and very passionate, in this issue, love can unfortunately kill. The wait for the next issue is now taken for granted, especially if we take into consideration how this one ended.

Question and answer

Before concluding, our advice is to read the questions asked to Roberto Recchioni reported at the beginning of each new comic: they will help you in reading and imagining what we will be able to face in this new adventure, accompanied by a never superfluous short recap of the previous issues. It is also good to go along with the advice regarding the music tracks to listen to while reading, suitable for each register (such as those mentioned above). The drawings are edited by Sergio Gerasi, a guarantee synonymous with quality and realism, with especially the details of the faces in the foreground to stand out. Small note: the new Dylan Dog with a beard in "Gerasi version" manages to characterize the Old Boy in all respects, making us definitely "recognize" it. There is a growing curiosity regarding the work of Giorgio Pontrelli, whose arrival we await with trepidation. Without any more doubts we can say that Roberto Recchioni has hit our heart fully.
