Dragon Age 4: myths and legends about the Terrifying Wolf

Dragon Age 4: myths and legends about the Terrifying Wolf

Dragon Age 4 has been on everyone's lips for some time now: more precisely from the distant 2018 when a teaser trailer of what could have happened on this generation of consoles was shown at The Game Awards. However, this did not happen. Why? Well, those who have followed the events of Bioware will know that the disaster with Anthem did not benefit the company and, consequently, as much as the writer loved the title and its philosophy of play, all the projects that the development team had. they have at least been put on standby by the producer, aka Electronic Arts.

Now we know that part of the development team is active on Anthem for a Phoenix Arab-style rebirth and this has made many professionals in the sector perk up because on the one hand we have part of the team involved in reviving the fortunes of a title. by many defined as dead and buried, on the other hand we could have a not small workforce that carries out the Dragon Age 4 project, or as it had been announced, The Dread Wolf rises. Let's start with the trailer and do some clarity.

In the video we hear a voice that at the end reads “Well, in the end you found me! I suspect you have some questions. " while on the screen we see an idol appear in the center of a painting with an elf and a figure resembling a wolf on either side. The "lore" of Dragon Age is as beautiful as it is complex: in the second chapter of the saga, playing the role of Hawk, following Varric's storyline, you will have found yourself searching for an ancient dwarven treasure; in this adventure our heroes come across an idol that seems to contain Red Lyrium (a substance that in this world is inextricably linked to black blood magic) that corrupts the mind of Varric's brother, to the point that the dwarf abandons Hawk and Varric in the cave. Leaving the cave and reaching Bertrand, Varric's brother, at his home, we discover that the dwarf has sold the idol to Meredith, the Commander of the Knights of Kirkwall and that she too has been corrupted by the power of the Red Lyrium. These events led to the semi-destruction of Kirkwall which was saved thanks to the intervention of Hawk.

Traces of the Idol have been lost but not of the Red Lyrium which has continued to corrupt and put a spoke in the wheel even in the next chapter of the saga, Dragon Age: Inquisition, in which we discovered that although the Red Lyrium corrupts those with magical powers, it also seems to have a tremendous power within itself that if aimed at the forces of good could bring a balance between the two opposites. Returning to the image of the teaser, on the left is this elf; well, even the writer immediately thought it was Solas (also thanks to the voice that makes the statement at the end of the video itself), the elf who disappeared at the end of the main story of Dragon Age: Inquisition ... but apparently, the reality of the facts could be quite different. In fact, the expression Dread Wolf (Terrifying Wolf or Wolf Terror) refers to the elven god Fen'Harel of which there are several statues and representations within the various games of the brand; aesthetically the elven god is very similar to Solas, both are bald, both carry a staff and the character trait of Fen'Harel is very similar to that of a Norse god that many of you know, Loki. Fen'Harel is the god of Betrayal and Deception in elven mythology and on the finale of the Trespasser DLC featured in Inquisition, we discover that the aforementioned god has a strong bond with Solas.

The fresco that appears on the video then depicts this terrifying wolf with three eyes: here there are not many doubts, probably that wolf is the esoteric form of the god Fen'Harel. Putting all this information together we can come to two conclusions; the first is that Solas is none other than the good part of the elven god of betrayal, made flesh and blood, ready to face his evil side, namely the Wolf. The second option is that Solas is an illegitimate son of the god of betrayal and does not want to allow his father to get his hands on Lyrium Red's idol, avoiding an unprecedented catastrophe. We just have to wait for the release of an official announcement of Dragon Age 4, which will realistically arrive shortly, although it remains to be understood on which generation of consoles we will see everything, or if the game will be cross-gen or if it will arrive exclusively on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC.
