Over the course of the past BlizzCon 2019 the event that most likely amazed most of all was the long-awaited announcement of Diablo IV, world famous hack 'n' slash series by Blizzard followed and appreciated by millions and millions of fans. To date there have not been many updates received on the development of the title, on the contrary, just some time ago the software house got unbalanced a bit by releasing various interesting information that you can retrieve in the following article. Today, however, we are talking about the recently announced news concerning the skill tree and related reworkings made to the game's skill and talent system.
What you can see above is a simple informative image illustrating how, in Diablo IV, your skill tree is a literal tree: your character's individual abilities make up the branches while his passive skills are the roots. These are the words of the team's chief systems designer:
We have read many comments from the community and agree that the talent system needs more depth. Similarly, the progression of the skill system seemed too simple, which created problems as the player would not have a valid reason to spend their skill points.
Passive abilities now exist in well separated sections of the tree which will then give the shape of the classic roots. As you level up, you will earn points that can be spent to unlock certain additional skills and passive points. With passive points you can unlock new passive skills for your character.
The passive part of this system is where you will find more general improvements of your protagonist. These effects are not specific to particular abilities. Therefore, the skill tree will have a good mix of all kinds of different choices that players will be able to make.
