Destiny 2: Forsaken - Review, the death leading to the rebirth of the Bungie title

Only after the most thunderous falls, do we realize how much things need a change, and the videogame field is not exempt from this mechanic. After the good first run of the vanilla version of Destiny 2 and the qualitative dive of the following two DLCs, Bungie e Activision they managed to get back on top, regaining much of the confidence that historical players had lost. The Destiny saga tells us about rebirths, about the light that reduces death to a simple joke, and never as today can we say that Destiny 2 was the most beautiful, hoped-for and unexpected of rebirths. The developers of the American company have chosen this time to listen more closely to the colossal community of the brand, which aims to return to an all-time high for numbers and active participation. Destiny 2: The Renegades in addition to being a compromise, it also turns out to be a great bet, a test of strength that dares to uproot some of the canonical foundations. The death of Cayde-6 which is the engine of the events is a strong blow to the plot and to the soul of the players who had become attached to the charismatic Exo. It will take very little, however, to realize that we are facing the tip of the iceberg. For everyone who leaves, there is always someone who comes back.

La Vendetta, tasted hot

The plot comes to life after the events that followed the Red War against the legion of Ghaul, or those narrated in the two previous expansions concerning Osiris and Bellic Mind. This time the stage becomes the Atoll, with the Contorted Shore and later the Dreaming City, that with their arrival bring to 8 explorable macrozones. Our adventure will begin after a mass breakout in the Prison of Elders, which we and ours Cayde-6 we will try to stop. Without anticipating the modalities in which it happens, we will be divided by our companion, who with a heroic last act tries at all costs to survive the attack of numerous fallen fanatics. Unfortunately, however, the brother of the dispersed queen of the sleepless, Uldren Sov, with the help of his 8 fallen barons he will come to inflict the death blow on our comrade. From here our new story will begin, a story where the noble task of helping the innocent sleepless is totally obscured by the main motive of our guardian's campaign: revenge. With the help of a new business ally (a big fallen trafficker, called The spider) and an old acquaintance, such as Petra Venj - called the Queen's Wrath - we will start a real crusade to avenge our friend, taking out all the barons of Uldren one by one, and then get to the main course. Could there be something more behind his insane behavior? We leave the discovery to you, why the twists are many, and they will not disappoint you at all… even after completing the story!

Revolution and Evolution

We were promised that things would change, yet it was truly unthinkable just a few months ago to witness such a radical revolution. We are always facing the same game, of course, but Destiny 2: Forsaken brought with it a wealth of content and experience that Bungie seemed to have hidden in a drawer. The complete reorganization of armaments, triumphs, lost sectors and daily and weekly activities, have brought players back to appreciate it as it did with its predecessor. Even the return of private matches, bounties (now with a daily or weekly deadline), and challenges bordering on blasphemous curse have made the game primarily a challenge, and not a mere hunt to collect weapons. You will rediscover the pleasure of making your character grow, you will go crazy - perhaps too much - in remedying materials for infusions and upgrades, but above all you will find that hunting spirit that was lost, with the drop rate of powerful weapons somewhat reworked. Also to be commended the work done to streamline many of the uncomfortable situations that were created in the first year of the game, such as the possibility of recycling the oppressive shaders, the balancing of the daily heroic missions (now selectable according to the level of challenge we want), but also the increase of the enterprises, of the heroic enterprises, and a general challenge level that with new enemies (the Infamous) finds a new step. Last but not least, the great tactical variety provided by the new Super inserted for all subclasses of Titans, Hunters and Warlocks, which will have a decisive value for PvP and PvE matches.

The Arena, the Well, and the Desiderio

The three great activities that, story aside, are going to impinge on our gaming experience, are the new mode for the crucible Venture, then the Blind Well available in the Dreaming City, and of course the raid Last wish, which turns out to be the most difficult created so far for the Bungie brand. Destiny 2: Forsaken straightens many of the flaws that the Crucible suffered from in the first year, even if in reality other smaller and more scattered ones have been created, such as the not exactly fair balance of some categories of weapons, and the favoring of long-range play, especially if in groups. To give a blow to everything, however, comes the new mode Venture, the first big news added. We will interface with a new character, a real "new entry" in the world of Destiny, who will be advisor, referee and judge of the matches: the Drifter. In this, PvP and PvE come together in a single great clash between two teams of 4 players, who will have the task of gather, summon, disturb and destroy. Team synergy will be crucial to win, but above all in Venture what matters is the timing. Choose wisely when to use particles to summon enemies in the opposing arena, but also choose wisely when to invade it yourself. And the Primordial? Clearly, you have to defeat him first, and if it's not about managing time here ...

Then comes the Blind Well, the new arena-style activity in PvE mode that in some ways recalls the Court of Oryx, which will engage players in increasingly difficult challenges, gradually presenting offers to activate them. Also in this case, as happened for the aforementioned Destiny mode, we are faced with particular bosses who must be exterminated under certain conditions, but unfortunately also the defects that we remembered for it, have reappeared. Especially if you are not at a very high level of light in fact, it will always be necessary to undertake this activity as a team, but above all hoping that other players in the same map will participate in it, giving you a hand for a common purpose.

In the last few days, in conclusion, the challenge that everyone has been waiting for has been activated: the raid Last wish. In order to unlock it, you need to finish the main story and the Dreaming City, since this will be done right there. After having tried it repeatedly, we can say without a doubt that we are facing the most difficult Raid that Destiny has ever proposed to us, and that to be completed has made even the strongest players of the moment sweat seven shirts. The novelty is not only in the involvement and in the mechanics, which are satisfying for everyone, but for the first time we are faced with a Raid that has a very specific meaning within the story. There where Crota was destroyed, but then he became boss of the Raid, where the same thing happened for example with Oryx or with all the main bosses of the plot, in Destiny 2: Forsaken the connection between the two types of activities makes a lot more sense.
