Cd Projekt Red was the victim of a heavy cyber attack

CD Project Red, the Polish software house that created cyberpunk 2077 and the saga of The Witcher, has undergone an important server violation by some hackers. Among the stolen information, as we learned from a note left by the hackers themselves in the software house system, there are the server source codes for Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3, Gwent, and an as yet unreleased version of the third installment of the saga starring Geralt of Rivia, as well as some reporting documents and investor relations. The software house released the information in a statement, however, stating that the systems were compromised they do not contain any personal data about their players or the users of their servers.

    - CD PROJEKT RED (@CDPROJEKTRED) February 9, 2021

Yesterday we at CD Projekt Red discovered that we have become victims of a cyber attack, due to which some of our internal systems have been compromised. An unidentified actor has gained unauthorized access to our internal network, collected some data belonging to the CD Projekt Capital Group and left a note of the content we release for publication. Even though some devices on our network have been encrypted, our backups remain intact. We've already secured our IT facility and started restoring data. We will not bargain or negotiate with this mysterious hacker, although we are aware that this could also lead to the publication of the compromised data. We are doing whatever it takes to mitigate the consequences of such a publication, particularly by talking to any party that might be affected by this breach. We are still investigating the incident, but we can confirm that, to our knowledge, the compromised systems did not contain any personal data about the players or users of our servers. We have already contacted the relevant authorities, including a legal team and the president of the Personal Data Protection Office, as well as IT specialists and will cooperate closely with them to better investigate this incident.

The hackers left a note for CD Projekt Red, with which they informed them of what they stole and their intentions:

Hi CD Projekt, you have been violated !! We have downloaded full copies of the source codes from your Perforce Server, for Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3, Gwent, and the unreleased version of The Witcher 3 !! We have also downloaded all your reporting documents, administration, legal documents, investor relations and more !! We've also encrypted all your servers, but we know you can recover everything from backups. If we do not come to an agreement, then your source codes will be sold and published online, and your documents will be sent to our contacts in the world of gaming journalism. Your public image will plummet even further and people will see how bad your company sucks. Investors will lose faith in your company and the merchandise will sell even less. You have 48 hours to contact us.

There seems therefore to be no peace for CD Projekt Red. After the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077, and the leak of some internal news about the development of the title, now this heavy cyber attack has arrived. The hackers only gave the Polish software house 48 hours before releasing the information they stole online, and, from the message they left, it appears that they have uncovered other important secrets that could destroy the company's reputation.
