Bugsnax is a first person-adventure inspired by Ape Escape

One of the video games announced during the PS5 conference: The Future of Gaming is Bugsnax, new work created by the minds of Young horses (known for developing the acclaimed Octodad: Dadliest Catch) which showed a certain aura of mystery in its announcement trailer, at least as far as its actual gameplay is concerned. Gamers are quite intrigued about the work in question, and so our colleagues at USgamer.net interviewed Philip Tibitoski (president and co-founder of the study) on this precise topic.

The title is therefore a first-person adventure in which we play the role of a journalist where, one day like any other, he receives a mysterious video from an adventurer named Elizabert Megafig. Inside, the anthropomorphic dog claims to have discovered a mysterious animal race that is half an insect and the other half of the very common human food, and wants us to document this sensational discovery. As soon as we arrive on the spot, however, we cannot find Elizabeth anywhere and, for this reason, in addition to discover the behavior of these particular animals our task will be understand what happened to the missing adventurer. One of the features of the title are the changes that the body structure of the characters undergo every time someone eats one of these creatures, or body limbs that are transformed into food. The main musical theme is made by the pop band Kero Kero Bonito, who received a build of the project - along with a description of the story, characters and setting - to ensure that they did a real collaboration with the development team.

Made by more than a hundred people "different completions", the game is would inspire Pixar works to give fun for all ages, complete with some jokes aimed at a mature audience. Bugsnax is coming out on PlayStation 5 Playstation 4 and PC (in the latter platform as a temporal exclusive of the Epic Games Store), but on Sony's next-gen the developers intend to take advantage of the capabilities of the DualSense controller. Unfortunately Tibitoski didn't talk much about the actual gameplay of this product, but he did specify to expect something similar to Ape Escape. Further inspirations from the developers, in addition to the two previous ones already mentioned, were Viva Pinata, Pokemon Snap, Dark Cloud, Bioshock and the film Fern Gully.
