Bright Memory - Review, an amazing starter for Xbox Series X

Born almost as a test bed for the developer Zeng Xiancheng, Bright Memory has already got to shine in the PC world. After a phase of Early Access in fact, the only member who populates the software house FYQD Studio made the final version of the game available. Right from the start, this comes as an appetizer for Bright Memory: Infinite, here our preview, which in fact includes the new title in development in the ticket price. What is it then? Almost of a demo, where the professional has decided to field his skills with the Unreal Engine 4, offering a limited work in every area that aims to introduce players to this bizarre and iconic universe, while offering some playful sections that are undoubtedly enjoyable.Bright Memory - Review, an amazing starter for Xbox Series X

We got to complete the game on Xbox Series X, unfortunately it is less than an hour of gameplay, therefore we want to talk to you about the project and its peculiarities. We specify right away that you will not find any votes after the final stages, as the one we have had the opportunity to experience is in effect a demo, so we postpone our judgment to the next full game.

Action and style in Bright Memory

Presenting itself immediately as a love letter from the developer to the world of video games, the work offers us an interesting visual impact, as well as many quotes to other works such as the saga of Dark Souls. The story is particularly blurred, it is just a hint to be honest, where a girl finds herself fighting against many opponents with futuristic objects, going from area to area and investigating some rather interesting mysteries, while also various timelines get in the way. We clearly hope that the narrative sector will be enhanced and made clearer during the next iteration of the brand.

Bright Memory is configured as an FPS, however, not embracing all the canons of the genre, as it brings in a lot of skills and a truly spectacular frenetic action. Seismic strikes and grappling hooks to fly here and there are not lacking in any section, that you do not miss then the lightsaber with which to slice the enemies and use further combinations. The shooting system is really solid and offers excellent feedback, this allows together with the various potentials of the protagonist of slice through the hordes of enemies in no time at all, which unfortunately are available in very few playful sections.

Bright Memory - Review, an amazing starter for Xbox Series X Fortunately, everything remains fun for the entire duration of the experience, regardless of the two rather repetitive bosses, but clearly leaves with a bitter taste on the finish. The possibility of making powerful jumps also opens the game to platform phases, once again, very few, but rather nice and fun, just like for the handful of environmental puzzles present.

Ready for the new project

As for the graphic side, the work defends itself quite well, even if in the animations and facial expressions we can see the “independent” invoice of the experience. The glance is great, though the Xbox Series X version does not particularly shine on the technical field, as it is literally the same as the PC one. The support for mouse and keyboard - miraculous for an FPS - is only partially implemented, since in the menu it is still necessary to hold a controller (which among other things, ironically, is used to move a cursor). There are several details that point out how approximate this port is, from the frame drops, to the commands only partially transformed for the various peripherals, to the presence of the same graphic settings of the computer version, among other things for some reason even modifiable.

In conclusion, we give you that as a game in itself Bright Memory fails to hit the target fully. You want for the duration, you want for the many limitations present in every area, the game is nothing more than a rather fun appetizer, suitable for prepare players for the upcoming Bright Memory: Infinite. However we can assure you that the work, considering that it was done in its entirety by - almost - a single individual, is simply impressive, and only creates the right desire to get their hands on their next product!
