Bioshock The Collection - Bioshock Infinite - Review

BioShock Infinite is the last episode of the famous series created by the now closed Irrational Games. This, like the previous two chapters, is included in BioShock: The Collection, a remastered collection of the trilogy available for 4 PlayStation, Xbox One and PC. The title 2K Games at the time of its release, it turned out to be one of the best of its kind, receiving numerous awards from the press and critics, but also being greatly appreciated by users. What we are going to evaluate, will be the differences and improvements from the original chapter of this version for the new consoles. If you have never tried it, this will surely be the right opportunity to do it! Bioshock The Collection - Bioshock Infinite - ReviewA utopia called Columbia

The main story is set in the year 1912, thus placing itself as a sort of wide-ranging prequel compared to the previous chapters of the series. Zachary Hale Comstock inn Columbia, a utopian city in the clouds, a powerful symbol of the American ideals of the time. The design of the city itself is wonderful and fascinating, capable of offering some spectacular and evocative views. The mutation of it in the course of the plot is perfectly delineated and we will see it slowly lose its magnificence, due to our intervention, to the point of being devastated by internal struggles and falling prey to fires and destruction.

The protagonist we are going to impersonate will be Booker DeWitt, an alcoholic detective and avid gambler, with a stormy past and a forced discharge from the Pinkerton agency, who finds himself in spite of himself in the floating city of Columbia because of a settling of scores. Its mission will consist in bringing back to New York a young girl named Elizabeth, imprisoned by Comstock since childhood and guarded by a mysterious winged creature named Songbird.

These are the premises of one of the greatest videogame adventures that have been seen in the last generation. In addition to the main story, Additional game content will also be included: Clash in the clouds, an unprecedented wave arena mode where you can clash with opponents encountered in the main storyline, and Funeral at sea, an alternative story to the original one of the game, where the protagonists this time will play the role of inhabitants of one Pre-Revolutionary Rapture
Bioshock The Collection - Bioshock Infinite - ReviewNew light

Being the most recent chapter in the series, the graphic upscale work done on Bioshock Infinite is limited to being a porting of the PC version of the time, which was already more performing than its console counterpart. This remastered version of the game will therefore allow us to be able to play with one quality standard of 1080p and a framerate of 60fps, but not exempt from performance drops. In fact, there will be various occasions, such as near the save points or during particularly lively clashes, where the framerate will be somewhat unstable (even if we are talking about a matter of a few moments, which does not in any way affect the superlative gameplay of the game). Also doing the comparison, on PlayStation 4 there is a lack of trilinear filtering for textures, present instead on Xbox One. Despite these small things, the graphic update work, albeit limited, is still excellent.

The work done on it is also exceptional colonna sonora, with period music perfectly in line with the scenario and accompanying themes composed of solo piano, violin or double bass, able to emphasize topical moments of the narrative or the adrenaline-fueled clashes in which we will take part in the course of the adventure. All this is accompanied by the excellent dubbing in other languages which remains unchanged in this transposition. As we have seen, we certainly do not find ourselves in front of a lazy upscale work as it may seem, but on the contrary, with Bioshock Infinite we find ourselves in front of a very well done job that certainly does justice to the original title.
