Bandai Namco celebrated the start of 2021 by hinting that it would currently be working on a project not yet announced, but that will be one of the most expensive games in the company's history. Although 2020 was an overall profitable year for the Japanese giant, characterized by the excellent results obtained by the recent Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, One Piece: Pirate Warriors, Captain Tsubasa and One-Punch Man, and by the bitter disappointments of Fast & Furious: Crossroads and Twin Mirror, Bandai Namco promises to raise the bar further next year, despite the fact that many publishers have downsized many of their projects due to the health emergency caused by the COVID-19.

During the Piro Live! Special New Year's Eve 2021, an event that you can easily recover from the following link, the director of Tekken Katsuhiro Harada revealed to fans that he is working on one of the "most expensive development projects in Bandai Namco history". At the moment it is not clear whether the project mentioned by the well-known director is linked to the famous fighting video game series, to the return of an old franchise or a completely new IP. However, Harada claimed that the game in question was only recently approved, being surprised that it got the green light. He also said it wasn't going to be a fighting game, which leaves the door wide open for many possibilities. We report his words in detail:

Well, I honestly think this may be the most expensive development project in Bandai Namco's history. I think it's amazing that the superiors approved it. Well, the approval has passed, it's just that due to the coronavirus, we haven't really been able to get the project started properly.

I am developing things other than fighting games. I don't think I'll ever work on a similar title other than Tekken. But at this point I will not say what the project is in development.
