ASUS ROG Strix Impact II - Review of one of the lightest mice ever

Asus tries again and after the production of the first ROG Strix Impact launches the second version of this model. Some time ago we had the opportunity to test this mouse and found it smaller and more manageable than many other devices. With curiosity and sincere hope, let's find out if theASUS ROG Strix Impact II it will live up to its predecessor.

Packaging

Unboxing theASUS ROG Strix Impact II it is very easy and fast. The product packed by ASUS with the Republic of Gamers brand on it, it immediately makes us understand who this device is intended for and that it is of the premium type. The packaging is very nice, made with a thick cardboard, mainly covered with the colors that represent the brand ROG. On the front of the box we find a large raised and glossy image of the mouse. On the back of the box, there are details of the main features of the device, as well as its essential specifications. When the package is opened, users will be able to find everything they need to connect and use the device right away: the mouse, its user manual and warranty documentation.

Technical Specifications

The first ROG Strix Impact it was a high quality product, this second model we can already tell you that it is no exception. L'ASUS ROG Strix Impact II is a wired mouse that uses optical tracking via a sensor with a maximum DPI of 6200. Just think that its predecessor was equipped with a 5000 DPI sensor, so already in this case we notice great improvements.ASUS ROG Strix Impact II - Review of one of the lightest mice ever

Also, the Strix Impact II it has a 4-level DPI switch, while the original only had a 2-level DPI switch. This means that the new device is much more customizable in terms of speed and tracking, allowing users to quickly jump between the various four sensitivity settings, so that they are never caught unprepared in the various gaming sessions.

Asus has equipped this new mouse with two original buttons (as opposed to what happened with the first model): The two buttons are completely customizable through the device software, so as to make them the most appropriate to your needs. These have been left independent of each other so as to make them as reactive as possible. The switches were made by Omron and have a lifespan of 50 million clicks. Among the customizations that we can make to this device, we also find the replaceable switches. There is a list of Switches Omron compatible with mouse sockets: "D2F D2F, D2F-F, D2F-01, D2F-01F and Omron D2FC series D2FC-3M, D2FC-F-7N, D2FC-F- 7N (10M), D2FC-F-7N (20M) ".

The Asus mouse is compatible with theASUS Aura Sync. Players will be able to customize the lighting of the logo Republic of Gamers on the back of the mouse, the light on the scroll wheel and two beacons on the front of the left and right buttons. This aspect will make your mouse even more attractive than it already is. The weight of the device is 79 grams (2,78 ounces), it is 12 grams lighter than the original ROG Strix Impact, and it's a really good weight. As for its size, the mouse is 120 mm (4.72 in) long, 62,5 mm (2.46 in) wide and 39.5 mm (1.55 in) high. The cable is coated with soft rubber and has a length of 2 meters (79 in).

With this weight and these dimensions it ranks among the most manageable and space-saving mice of recent times, a feature that I personally liked very much and will appeal to anyone who does not have very large hands.

Performance

The mouse ASUS ROG Strix Impact II is definitely a device designed for gaming. Its weight and size make it really suitable for games like FPS and MOBA. During the various game sessions we had a great time lifting it, moving it and using the two side buttons. The 79 grams of weight make it very fast and easy, the two side buttons are really just a click away and with the right settings it takes a moment to quickly switch to your secondary firearm or place a ward.ASUS ROG Strix Impact II - Review of one of the lightest mice ever

The ergonomics of the ASUS ROG Strix Impact II feel well designed, the back has a small bump compared to its front, and that means the back of your hand should sit comfortably on it. However, the size makes it ideal for finger grips, especially for those with small hands.

Even the pressure of the left and right buttons is pleasant, and even the sound that comes out is pleasant, an indication of a product made properly, solid and precise. This is obviously a very personal part, as some users may find the clicking sound too metallic or loud, but if you are a real gamer it is very unlikely. To make the use of this device even more pleasant are the RGB headlights, which light up the mouse at any time.

The only really negative note that we can tell you about this device is the use of the cable. Yes it is true that the cable increases the responsiveness of your mouse, but the soft plastic coating is not up to standard. As for the in-game performance, they are excellent: we are now always using it for sessions on League of Legends, Overwatch and Call of Duty. The responsiveness is impressive, the sensitivity reflects our tastes and the customizations complement everything we seek from a gaming peripheral.

Software

The product has, I remember, four levels of DPI between which you can switch by simply pressing the DPI button on the device. It also allows you to select the polling rate, choose the response speed of the buttons, and adjust the acceleration and deceleration of the mouse cursor. Then there are the configurations regarding the RGB headlights. Since the mouse supports Aura Sync, the app Armory II it also includes settings for lighting effects and their synchronization with other RGB-enabled devices (great thing).

Finally, thanks to Armony II you can create and store macro actions and record the clicks and the distance traveled by the mouse. These settings are dedicated to pro players, who often need to understand how many times and on what occasions they have found themselves using their own custom settings.
