Apex Legends: PC players will be limited to separate lobbies

The cross-play of Apex Legends will have limits, as far as PCs are concerned. The news comes from the engineer of Respawn Entertainmnent, Jake Smulling, who explained on TikTok that cross-play will only activate when a PC player will be added to the pre-game lobby. The choice was made not to unbalance the Battle Royale title too much. If we think about it, those who play from PC often benefit of a higher frame rate, and especially, they have mouse and keyboard on their side. These two factors lead to an advantage over console gamers, who cannot choose which peripherals to use. Smulling's statement was:

I want to make something clear regarding Apex Legends and cross-play. We will only have it on PC if a lobby member plays from that platform. We saw a lot of console gamers worrying about the arrival of PC cross-play, but there's no need to worry. Indeed, we should all be happy. There will be no question of "no to cross-play, the PC will dominate us".

Apex Legends will get cross-play during the fall of 2020, thus allowing players from Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC (both Steam and Origin) to play all together. There version for Nintendo Switch was announced during the EA Play Showcase held last month. Also, one is coming later this year mobile version. In short, Apex Legends, like Fortnite, is trying to reach as many platforms as possible. Who knows if sooner or later we will also see the cross-play with smartphone players. For now, though, we expect this to be finalized for PC gamers. Only when it is active will we see if the console players really have reason to worry or if Respawn Entertainment will be able to manage it without unbalancing the Battle Royale too much to the detriment of one platform or another.
